I’ve met people with all sorts of different interests over the years, but sploshing is one that I find particularly amusing. There’s something quite funny about somebody happily sitting there while you cover them in custard, cream or baked beans, knowing that it’s exactly what they’ve asked you to do!
People sometimes ask what a sploshing fetish actually is, and I think the answer is a little more interesting than simply enjoying getting messy.
For some people, it’s about how different things feel against their skin. For others, it’s the anticipation of what’s coming next, or the freedom to make an enormous mess without worrying about the usual rules.
I’ve found that people who enjoy sploshing are often quite private about it. They don’t necessarily want to make a big announcement about what they like. They’re just ordinary, lovely people who happen to enjoy playing with mess.
And really, when you think about it, we all have things we enjoy that somebody else might not understand.
Is Sploshing All About Getting Messy?
Well, getting messy is certainly a big part of it!
But I think there’s more to sploshing than simply having food poured over you.
Imagine sitting there knowing that somebody is about to tip a bowl of custard over your head. You can see it coming, but you don’t know exactly when they’re going to do it.
Then suddenly you’re covered in custard!
Some people might find that absolutely ridiculous, while somebody else might be laughing and asking for another bowl.
That’s one of the things I find interesting about people. The same experience can mean something completely different to each person.
Sploshing is sometimes called wet and messy play, or WAM. Although people often use these terms together, WAM can describe a wider range of messy activities, while sploshing is particularly associated with getting covered in substances such as food, liquids and other messy materials.
If you’re completely new to the subject, I’ve also written a separate article explaining what sploshing means.
Why Do People Enjoy a Sploshing Fetish?
I don’t think there’s one particular reason, and I wouldn’t want to pretend that I know exactly what’s going through somebody’s mind just because they enjoy sploshing.
Some people are drawn to the sensations. Something thick and creamy feels completely different from something watery or cold. The feeling changes as it moves across the skin, and some people enjoy exploring those differences.
Other people seem to enjoy the anticipation.
It’s a bit like knowing somebody is about to throw a bucket of water over you. You’re waiting for it, perhaps laughing already, and then suddenly it happens.
There’s also the freedom of being able to make a mess.
Most of us have spent our lives being told not to spill things, not to get dirty and not to waste food. We’re expected to keep everything neat and tidy.
Then along comes sploshing, where making a mess is the whole point!
Of course, that doesn’t mean everybody wants the same experience. Some people have very specific ideas, while others simply want to try something different and see whether they enjoy it.
What I’ve Noticed About People Who Enjoy Sploshing
Something I’ve noticed is that people can be quite quiet about what they enjoy.
They might contact me privately, explain what they’re interested in and ask whether it’s something I offer. Sometimes they’re very straightforward, and sometimes you can tell they’re a little nervous about bringing it up.
But the people I’ve met have generally seemed like perfectly nice, ordinary people.
They aren’t necessarily looking for anything complicated. They just enjoy playing with mess.
I think people sometimes imagine that anyone with an unusual interest must be completely different from everybody else, but that’s not been my experience.
Someone can have a normal job, a family, hobbies and all the usual things going on in their life, and also happen to enjoy having baked beans poured over them.
Although I must admit, that’s probably not something they’d mention during a conversation at work!
I’ve also found that people often know what they like. They might prefer particular textures, or have an idea of how they want the mess to be created.
I find it much better to listen to what somebody actually wants than make assumptions about them.
What I Personally Enjoy About Messy Play
For me, one of the most enjoyable parts is actually creating the mess on somebody.
I like covering someone in whatever we’re using, seeing it spread over them and squashing it in. There’s something wonderfully silly about making an enormous mess when the other person is happily encouraging you to do it.
It’s the process of making the mess that I enjoy, rather than simply looking at the finished result.
And because I’m naturally quite playful, I tend to enjoy experiences where there’s room for laughter and a bit of humour.
Sometimes it’s difficult not to laugh when you’re looking at somebody covered in food. Especially when they seem perfectly happy about the situation!
Of course, what I enjoy and what somebody else enjoys aren’t always exactly the same. That’s why I think it’s important to talk beforehand and understand what each person is comfortable with.
One thing I can say is that creating the mess is considerably more enjoyable than cleaning it up afterwards.
I don’t think anybody has ever developed a great enthusiasm for scrubbing custard off the floor!

Do People Feel Embarrassed About Having a Sploshing Fetish?
I imagine some people do, particularly if they’ve never spoken about their interest before.
It’s not exactly an everyday conversation, is it?
Somebody might be perfectly comfortable talking about their favourite music, food or holiday destination, but admitting that they enjoy being covered in custard can feel a little more personal.
I do think people are becoming more open-minded about different interests now, though.
There seems to be more willingness to accept that people enjoy different things, even if we don’t necessarily understand them ourselves.
Personally, I don’t see the point in judging somebody for something simply because it’s unusual.
Everybody has their own little interests. Some people enjoy things that others find boring, some have hobbies that seem completely bizarre, and some like getting messy.
As long as everyone involved is an adult, comfortable and consenting, I don’t think somebody needs to feel ashamed of being curious.
And there’s no need to have a complicated explanation ready for why you enjoy something.
Sometimes you simply like it.
Is There a Psychological Reason People Like Sploshing?
I think it’s interesting to look at why people might enjoy something that goes against the usual expectations of everyday life.
We’re generally encouraged to stay clean, behave properly and avoid making a mess.
Sploshing gives people an opportunity to do the opposite, in an environment where everyone has agreed that’s what they’re there for.
There might be an element of curiosity, sensory enjoyment or simply the pleasure of doing something unexpected.
Some people may also enjoy being able to stop worrying about keeping everything perfect for a little while.
But I wouldn’t say there’s one psychological explanation for everybody who enjoys it. People are far too different for that.
Nor do I think every unusual interest needs to be analysed as though there’s something wrong with it.
Sometimes people just want to have a laugh and get covered in baked beans!
Why Finding Somewhere to Enjoy Sploshing Can Be Difficult
One thing that doesn’t always get mentioned is how difficult it can be to find somewhere suitable to make such a mess.
It’s all very well deciding that you’d like to be covered in custard, but where exactly are you going to do it?
Most people probably don’t want to cover their bedroom carpet in food. And I can’t imagine many landlords being particularly enthusiastic about finding baked beans all over the bathroom walls.
Even when someone has a private space, there are practical things to consider.
Some substances stain. Others are difficult to remove from clothing or furnishings. Floors can become slippery, and large quantities of food can cause problems if they’re washed down the drain.
Then there’s the cleaning afterwards, which can take considerably longer than the actual messy play.
I think this is one reason why somebody might prefer an organised experience rather than trying to arrange everything themselves.
Having an appropriate space, clear boundaries and a plan for cleaning up can make the whole thing much easier.
And even then, I would still recommend keeping plenty of towels nearby!
Can You Be Curious About Sploshing Without Knowing Exactly What You Like?
Absolutely.
I don’t think people need to have everything worked out before they start asking questions.
Somebody might have seen a video, heard about wet and messy play or simply wondered what it would feel like to have something poured over them.
That doesn’t mean they have to rush into trying it.
It’s perfectly fine to be curious, read about other people’s experiences and decide whether it’s something that interests you.
If somebody does want to explore messy play, I think starting with a conversation about what they do and don’t like is sensible.
They might be interested in one particular texture but dislike another. They might enjoy the idea of making a mess but not want anything near their face.
There are also practical things to discuss, such as allergies, skin sensitivities, temperature and which substances are suitable for contact with the skin.
And, of course, somebody should always feel comfortable saying no or changing their mind.
There’s no reason why exploring something new should involve pressure to do more than you’re comfortable with.
Does Everyone Who Enjoys Sploshing Want the Same Thing?
Definitely not.
And I think that’s something worth remembering when talking about any unusual interest.
One person might enjoy the anticipation of having something poured over them. Another might prefer the feeling of being completely covered in a particular substance.
Someone else might simply enjoy the humour of the situation.
That’s why I prefer asking people about their own interests instead of deciding what they must like based on a label.
Two people can both say they enjoy sploshing and still have completely different ideas about what makes it enjoyable.
For me, listening and being open-minded are much more useful than making assumptions.
My Final Thoughts on the Sploshing Fetish
I’ve always found people fascinating, particularly the different things they enjoy.
Sploshing is one of those interests that can sound rather unusual until you start thinking about the different reasons somebody might like it.
For some, it’s the sensations. For others, it’s anticipation, playfulness or simply being allowed to make a mess without anybody complaining.
From my own experiences, the people I’ve met have often been quite private about their interests, but they’ve generally just seemed like nice people who enjoy something a little different.
And I enjoy being the person creating that mess, covering somebody in it and watching them have fun.
I think we’re gradually becoming more accepting of the fact that not everybody enjoys the same things, and that’s a positive change.
So if you’re curious about sploshing, there’s no need to feel embarrassed about asking questions or wanting to understand it better.
And if you’d like to know more about the experiences I offer, you can read about my sploshing sessions in London and across the UK.
Just remember, the mess might be fun, but somebody still has to clean it up afterwards!
